Streckprocent vs. sannolikhet: Stryktipset 2014-08-09

Engelska matcher är tillbaka på Stryktipset och det är dags för ett spel igen! Som vanligt utgår jag från streckprocenten vs. sannolikhetsfördelningen för varje match. Streckprocenten är helt enkelt hur svenska folket har tippat, d.v.s. ”hur stecken har fördelats”. En diskussion kring hur streckprocenten ”beräknas” finns på Svenska Spels supportforum. Sannolikhetsfördelningen beräknas från medeloddsen på respektive match (från oddsportal.com)

Här har vi läget i dagens stryktipskupong klockan 06.30 i morse. Streckfördelningen och oddsen kommer säkert ändras en del under dagen, men oftast är ändringarna relativt små.

Vi ser att Mjällby i nuläget verkar klart överstreckade. Troligtvis är det Mjällbys uppåtgående form, Örebros svaga form samt det faktum att det blåser positiva vindar i Mjällby med Anders Linderoth på tränarbänken och Christian ’Chippen’ Wilhelmsson spelklar som påverkat stryktipsspelarna. Dessutom väntas storpublik i Hällevik. Jag har inte bestämt mig hur jag lägger mina streck här. Jag har också ’känsla’ för Mjällby, men streckprocent vs. sannolikhet pekar på x2.

Annars är skillnaderna mellan streckprocenten och sannolikheten mindre än vanligt (något som egentligen kanske talar för att man inte bör spela alls, eller välja spel på EttKryssTvå).

Man kan observera at IK Frej verkar vara en kanonspik. I vanliga fall är stora favoriter enligt oddsen ännu större favoriter enligt streckfördelningen, men här är skillnaden minimal. JAG SPIKAR IK FREJ.

Vidare verkar det finnas en hel del värde på Varberg och Reading och Assyriska är något så ovanligt som en favorit med kvot streck/sannolikhet>1! En spik på Assyriska verkar sunt.

Jag lämnar in mitt Stryktips lite senare. Det är möjligt att jag återkommer. Det är dock säkert att jag kommer att använda streckprocent vs. sannolikhet som den viktigaste faktorn när jag lägger strecken.

Fotboll – En kärlekshistoria

Petter Karlsson, journalist och författare, och Lars Fahlén, bildchef och professor i journalistik, skapade för ett decennium sedan en kärlekshistoria i bilder om fotboll. Fotboll – En kärlekshistoria är en fin fotobok som skildrar fotbollen från alla världens hörn och på alla nivåer. På varje uppslag finns en bild med en tillhörande bildtext.

Bäst tycker jag helt klart att bilderna är. Där finns bilder från alla tider. Från den första fotbollsmatchen i Sverige (på Heden i Göteborg 1892 mellan Lyckans Soldater och Örgryte), den klassiska och fruktansvärda bilden när IFK Göteborgs Dick Andersson bryter benet i en närkamp med AIK-målvakt, bilder från läktare, på barn, på Pebben lutande mot hörnflaggan och såklart på Uno ”Krångel” Jönsson i Sveg. Och så näst sist så kommer den, en av de bästa bilder som någonsin tagits, den när Elfsborgs målvakt John Hedin från Strömsnäsbruk (som tyvärr dog alltför ung för snart fem år sedan) mot Hammarby på Söderstadion sätter sig på en bänk vid sidan av målet under ett elfsborgsanfall.

Fotboll – En kärlekshistoria fungerar bäst som en bok att ibland ta fram att titta och bläddra i. Man lyckas fånga en speciell känsla av fotbollskärlek på ett påtagligt sätt. Jag köpte den mest för att den var snygg och tycker den ska ha en synlig plats i bokhyllan. Tragiskt nog delar inte fru Berglund denna åsikt så boken för just nu en undanskymd tillvaro på mitt kontor.

Bildtexterna är bra och ger en hel del (nödvändig) nördinformation som man måste älska. De är putslustiga men övergår ibland lite mot småtöntiga.

Bollen är rund, sägs det. Men precis som historien är full av avsparkade skor (”Jäkla tur att du inte nickade!”) …

Dessutom var Pelé mer allround än de flesta anar. Få minns att han under VM i England 1966 faktiskt var tredjemålvakt i Brasiliens trupp, men aldrig behövde rycka in mellan stolparna.

En tradition är vi dock gärna utan – Liverpools klassiska fans The Kop brukar ha som sport att i smyg försöka pinka i varandras fickor under match.

Men en text i boken är fruktansvärt enerverande. Intill en bild med fotbollskläder hängandes på tork utanför en tegelvilla står det.

Bakom varje framgångsrikt lag står alltid en kvinna med stor tvättmaskin. Vad vore gärdsgårdsserien utan sina tysta, stolta supportrar med sina hemliga kontakter med Bio Luvil och Via Direkt? När Englands kapten Terry Butcher krossade skallen i EM-kvalet på Råsunda 1989 och blodade ner hela landslagsdressen, kom direkt ett reklamerbjudande från en ledande tvättmedelfirma. ”Kapten Blods” fru tvättade gratis i många år efter den smällen. …

Jag tror inte jag behöver förklara min invändning.

Matchfixning och FA

The Gambler Magazine skriver om hur engelska FA tar i med hårdhanskarna mot matchfixning och förbjuder allt spel på fotboll för spelare, ledare, klubbanställda och matchrepresentanter för alla klubbar i de åtta högsta divisionerna i England. Jag rasar!

Så här skrev jag som en kommentar till inlägget.

Vansinnigt! Ska en 21-årig student som jobbar extra i kiosk på Hartlepools hemmamatcher (klubbanställd) förbjudas att spela på fotboll ÖVER HELA VÄRLDEN? Ska en heltidsarbetande fotbollsamatör i den åttonde ligan inte få spela på matcher från Premier Leauge?

Det är en otroligt stor grupp de förbjuder från spel. Hur ska detta kontrolleras? Hur rättfärdigar man detta som på sätt och vis är en kollektiv bestraffning?

Förhastat! Förkastligt! Panikartat!

Gå in här och ge din röst hörd! Jag tycker absolut inte det är okej att under några som helst omständigheter spela på sina egna matcher. Gränsen går någonstans vid att spela på lag i sin egen serie. Jag är lite osäker men jag valde till slut det alternativet.

Matchfixning (och spelberoende) är ett stort problem som har funnits länge, men verkar ha eskalerat i och med att spelbolag världen över erbjuder alla möjliga typer av spel på alla möjliga matcher. Matchfixning är absolut något vi alla måste försöka agera mot, summorna som fixade matcher omsätter är gigantiskt.

Men att förbjuda spel på all fotboll för alla spelare långt ner i divisionerna är helt förkastligt. Det är att gå för långt och jag är ytterst tveksam till om det har någon som helst effekt. Vill någon verkligen fixa matcher finns det fortfarande inget som stoppar denne. Hur ska alla dessa personer kontrolleras?

Alex Horne och FA vill verka handlingskraftiga och det är de säkert. Här missar man dock målet helt tror jag. Utbildning, avstängningar och undersökande arbete mot matchfixning är bra. Spelförbud på all fotboll hjälper inte!

Olof Mellberg: Players I remember #2

Olof Mellberg announced his retirement from football the other day. The former Aston Villa and Swedish international captain is – for me and most others – the best central defender Sweden has had since Patrik Andersson retired.

Olof Mellberg is a true professional. His will to win is widely known, and the Swedish media following the national team have reported numerously about a furious Mellberg after losing in football tennis. He read the game well, was reasonably fast, was good in the air, and always performed on a high level.

My memories from Mellberg’s career are many. I remember the growth of his beard (I have seen him doing interviews cleanly shaved one day and with a decent beard the next), how he walked away like nothing had happened from pitch riots in Olympiakos, his goals against England in Euro 2012, his fury against referees, his partnership with Martin Laursen in Aston Villa, signing for Italian giants Juventus, being part in the marvellous World Cup 2006 game against Paraguay in Berlin (I was there), and that he was only decent as a right back but world class in the centre of the defence. Birmingham Mail has listed five reasons why Aston Villa fans will always love Olof Mellberg.

Then, there is of course the fight (which I don’t think was much to report about, but Swedish media certainly did) with Fredrik ’Freddie’ Ljungberg.

Olof Mellberg started his career in his home town club Gullspång, but was soon pick up by Degerfors, the big club in the region. He then moved to AIK and after only ten months, including a Swedish championship, he was sold to Racing Santander in 1998.

Mellberg did well in Spain and rumours that bigger clubs followed him started. In 2001 he joined Aston Villa, where he almost became a cult hero. After 232 league games and 8 goals, including the first ever goal at Emirates Stadium, he decided to move to Juventus in 2008. He got 27 games in Italy, but decided to move on to Olympiakos after only one season. He played in Greece for three seasons and then ended his career by helping Villarreal reach promotion to La Liga and finally moving to Danish giants FC Copenhagen for his last season in his career.

So what will Mellberg do now? It seems like he will not be involved in football for some time. Perhaps he starts studying at the University?

Kerry Dixon: Players I remember #1

In July 1990 Chelsea FC prepared for the new season with a summer camp in Falkenberg, Sweden. I was ten years of age at the time and my father was some kind of organiser during their stay here. My family stayed close to the team and players like Kerry Dixon, Andy Townsend, Graeme Le Saux, and Dennis Wise, who had joined the team from Wimbledon for a club record fee of £1.6 million.

Kerry Dixon was the prolific goal scorer at the club and for me and my younger brother – who actually turned 9 the exact same day as Dixon turned 29, which (if I remember things correctly) was celebrated by the team with a cake for both of them – Dixon was a true hero. Even though I tried to acclaim his striking partner Gordon Durie simply since I got his Gatorade water bottle after a practise (my brother got Dixon’s of course)…

Kerry Dixon was born in Luton in 1961 and was an apprentice at Tottenham Hotspur. After short spells with Chesham United and Dunstable he joined Reading in 1980 and scored 51 league goals in 116 appearances in the third division. Before the 1983-84 season Chelsea’s chairman Ken Bates was willing to pay £150,000 for him but Reading wanted another 25,000 if he ever got two England caps during his stay at Chelsea. Bates needed a night deliberating, but finally decided to meet Reading’s requirements. He was desperate to improve the Chelsea squad after they almost relegated to the third division in the previous season.

That extra £25,000 was well spent. Kerry Dixon’s pace, heading ability, and two good feet made an instant impact and got him two goals in his debut in a 5-0 victory against Derby County. After assistance from hard working strike partner David Speedie and quality crosses from Pat Nevin, Dixon ended with 34 goals in his first season at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea turned things around and were promoted to Division One one year after risking being relegated to Division 3. And equally important, Chelsea had finally found a worthy replacement for Peter Osgood, the 60’s and 70’s icon in number nine.

Kerry Dixon stayed with the Blues for a decade and after some ups and downs, both for Dixon and Chelsea, he moved to Southampton 1992 after getting 193 goals in 440 appearances. That made him Chelsea’s second-highest goalscorer of all time (now moved down to third after Frank Lampard has taken the first spot with 211 goals).

After a bad season with the Saints he moved to his home town club Luton Town FC and actually entered a game together with Chelsea one last time. In a 1994 Wembley FA Cup semi-final Luton faced Chelsea and the Chelsea fans got a final chance to acknowledge a true club legend. At the end of the game “There’s only one Kerry Dixon” was shouted all over Wembley.

After his playing career Kerry Dixon has tried managing and has been involved in Chelsea TV, but sadly risks getting the sack after being arrested on suspicion of dealing cocaine.

Beitar Jerusalem fans accused of murder

Are Beitar Jerusalem fans involved in the murder of 16-years old Palestinian boy Mohammed Abu Khdeir? Well, six men are arrested and Israeli media have been speculating that the arrested men were already well known to the police and linked to hooligans who support Beitar Jerusalem Football Club.

James M. Dorsey, a senior fellow at Nanyang Technological University’s S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies in Singapore and the author of the blog, The Turbulent World of Middle East Soccer writes in various media (e.g. here) that

An Israeli investigation into the brutal murder of 16-year old Mohammed Abu Khdeir in apparent revenge for the killing of three teenage residents of an Israeli settlement on the West Bank has focused attention on Israel’s most militant, racist soccer fan group.

The focus, irrespective of whether the fan group was involved in Mr. Abu Khdeir’s death, is likely to end a long-standing refusal by the Israeli government and football association to crack down on rabidly anti-Palestinian, anti-Muslim soccer club Beitar Jerusalem FC and its notorious La Familia fan group. The club has long enjoyed the support of Israeli leaders, including Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu and other prominent right-wing personalities.

I know nothing about who killed the Palestinian teenager, but I do know that Beitar Jerusalem’s supporter group La Familia is openly racist and anti-muslim. A short documentary from ESPN (late 2012) about Beitar Jerusalem and La Familia reveals some horrific information. It is a must see!

World Cup Referees Route to the Final

Swedish referee Jonas Eriksson did not get a game in the quarter finals of the World Cup in Brazil. I got into a discussion on Twitter if he has refereed his last game in the tournament and decided to take a look in the last five World Cups played. What I came up with is that it is hard to understand how FIFA choose their World Cup referees for the final stages.

So, what can we say about this? Some interesting things about World Cup referees and how they are chosen in the very final stages are:

The ref in the final did not have a semi final in any case. Two had one game in the round of sixteen and no more, two had one quarter final and nothing more, and one (Said Belqola, Morocco) did not refereed any game after the group stage before the final! Hence, it is still possible for Jonas Eriksson to reach the final! (However, I do not believe that he will have a chance if a team from Europe faces a team from South America.)
No World Cup referee in the third-place match did have another game after the group stage!
In seven of the twenty matches investigated a referee from the round of sixteen has been chosen and in each tournament one or two refs from the round of sixteen got another game in the very last stages.

UPDATE 1: As @Abay_Anzali pointed out, and I did not think of, things are even more complicated since Jonas Eriksson got the position as fourth official in the quarter final (France-Germany). FIFA does probably not want Eriksson to be in charge of any these two teams’ matches again and there is perhaps no game left for him.

The only thing we can take for granted at the moment is that we cannot take anything for granted. Jonas Eriksson might get another game as a World Cup referee in 2014, but the probability is perhaps low.

World Cup Doubles

If you bet small (as I usually do) Comeon offers a fine bonus where a 100 SEK (Swedish Krona) deposit becomes 500 SEK playable money as long as you turn over your 500 SEK eight times on doubles with accumulated odds at least 2.0. I took the opportunity to play small doubles almost for free during the World Cup.

During the early game today I played doubles with the following (Asian Handicap) bets:

Costa Rica – Greece: Costa Rica +0 at 1.86. Result: 1-1. Push.
France – Nigeria: France -1 at 1.75. Result: 2-0. Win.
Argentina – Switzerland: Argentina -1 at 1.84. Result: 0-0. Loss.
Belgium – USA: Belgium -0.25 at 1.65. Result: 0-0. Half loss.
Brazil – Colombia: Colombia +1 at 1.53. Result: 2-1. Push.

Hence, 10 doubles has been played (25 SEK each) and I hope I will get at least three of the games in. All doubles are:

Costa Rica +0 & France -1 at 3.26. Result: +18.75 SEK.
Costa Rica +0 & Argentina -1 at 3.42. Result: -25 SEK.
Costa Rica +0 & Belgium -0.25 at 3.07. Result: -12.50 SEK.
Costa Rica +0 & Colombia +1 at 2.85. Result: +-0 SEK.
France -1 & Argentina -1 at 3.22. Result: -25 SEK.
France -1 & Belgium -0.25 at 2.89. Result: -3.13 SEK.

Quick thoughts:

Costa Rica have been better than Greece so far and I do not think that Greece will win during full time. A draw no bet price of 1.86 for Costa Rica is fine.
France are one of the best teams so far and I believe that they are too good for Nigeria.
Argentina have not impressed very much, but they have a much stronger team than Switzerland and I expect that Messi will show his qualities.
Belgium should be a lot better than USA and the prices are good in my opinion. I am a bit scared of the draw though and take Belgium -0.25.
Colombia have been much better than Brazil so far and, despite the home advantage for Brazil, I believe that Colombia should be slight favourites. I play it a bit safe and take Colombia +1 though.
